Account Deletion
How to delete your 2016Chat account, and what happens to your data afterwards.
Delete your account in the app
The quickest way to delete your account is in the app itself:
- Open 2016Chat and go to your Profile.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm when prompted.
Your account is then marked for deletion and you are signed out.
The 30-day grace period
When you request deletion, your account enters a 30-day grace period. During this time your account cannot be used normally, but you can change your mind simply by signing back in, which reactivates the account. After the 30 days have passed, your private personal data is deleted or anonymised.
Delete your account by email
If you cannot access the app, email support@2016chat.com from the email address connected to your account, with "Account deletion request" in the subject line, and include your username or account email. We may need to verify that you control the account before acting on the request.
What is deleted, and what may remain
After the grace period, we delete or anonymise the private data tied to your account — including your exact location and location history, notification token, saved places, private activity data, profile details, and profile photo.
Some things work differently:
- Shared chats may remain available to the other people in them, but your identity in those chats is anonymised (your name, username, and photo are removed).
- Limited records may be retained where needed for safety, security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, dispute handling, and reliable operations.
- Anonymous or aggregated data that can no longer identify you may be kept.
We do not promise that every record is instantly or permanently erased, but we delete or anonymise private personal data as described in our Privacy Policy.
